Thelma Todd

Thelma Todd was a beautiful blonde sometimes called The Ice Cream Blonde or Hot Toddy. She was a comedian who started out in the silent era of films and was able to transition to talkies. She was Miss Massachusetts of 1925. She was spotted by a talent scout and went to work for Paramount Pictures. She co-starred with the Marx Brothers in Monkey Business (1931) and Horse Feathers (1932). Todd was also in several pictures with Laurel and Hardy and co-starred in Speak Easily (1932) with Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante. In August of 1934 Thelma Todd’s Sidewalk Café opened in Pacific Palisades.

On December 16, 1935 Todd’s body was found in her car in a garage. The circumstances of her death remain a mystery. Blood was found on her car, clothes and lip. There have always been questions that there was foul play. Did her lover Roland West kill her or her ex-husband Pat DiCicco? The official cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. However, questions remain to this day.
